ASUS GeForce GTX 980 ROG Matrix Platinum

ASUS is announcing its GeForce GTX 980 ROG Matrix Platinum. The ROG card is overhauled with a customized PCB completely. including some extra's for the what, ten ? LN2 overclockers worldwide. The air cooling based solution has 10 mm-thick heat pipes and two fans. Nice are the all black radiator fins.

The PCB of the GTX 980 ROG Matrix is based on a 14-phase VRM. Interesting is though that for the handful of LN2 overclockers ASUS added an ASUS-exclusive "defroster" circuit, which is a trace running through key areas of the card, which heats up, preventing frost and damp condensation on the card. The ROG MATRIX GTX 980 Platinum does feature the GM204-400-A1 core that features 2048 CUDA Cores, 128 texture mapping units and 64 ROPs.

This card has a GPU Boost frequency of 1342 MHz. The memory is clocked reference at 7.00 Gbps. You will also notice a color-coded load indicator and a back-plate. ASUS didn't reveal pricing details or availability.

ASUS ROG MATRIX GTX 980 Platinum Specifications

  • Nvidia GTX 980 GPU with 1342 MHz GPU Boost Clock
  • 4GB, 7010 MHz (effective) GDDR5
  • 3 x DisplayPort, 1x HDMI, 1x dual-link DVI-I display outputs
  • ROG color-coded load Indicator
  • ROG Edition GPU Tweak
  • DirectCU II cooler with CoolTech fan, 10mm matt-black heatpipes
  • Extreme OC Features: Memory Defroster, Safe Mode,
  • DIGI+ VRM power control with 14-phase Super Alloy Power and Black Metallic capacitors.

not only for them, i am in 0 to neg watercooling and i had to use neoprene and hunt water created by the difference of temp beween ambiant air and componement surface.

going negative cost less and less each year and is quite easy to found nowaday (peletier cell, phase changing unit, vacuum cooling, or (like me) exotic fish cooler converted to WC)...

maybe this is why there is more and more "LN2" option in the mainstream product (MSI, Gigabyte, Asus, Asrock...).

I think its more like when in the old days car manufactures(yeah car ref)put giant motors in little cars to set records with.
That gets the crowds attention when that happens and is good pr
