Asrock expands BFB support for base frequency overclocking to Z390 and B365

Asrock expands BFB support for base frequency overclocking to Z390 and B365

The launch of Z400 Series motherboards for 10th Intel Core processors is imminent and Asrock introduced its “Base Frequency Boost” (BFB) feature to overclock multiplier-locked processors. After seeing interest from the public, Asrock announced that it will release new BIOSes for Z390 and B365, allowing this feature to be used on 9th processors as well.

ASRock BFB (Base Frequency Boost) Technology allows user to install non K series CPUs on selected ASRock 300 & 400 series motherboards (even non Z models) and enjoy the base frequency boost with the hidden power of processors immediately. While ASRock BFB breathes life into non K series CPUs and non Z series motherboards, the boost frequency currently still depends on the cooling system applied on your rig.

To increase the frequencies it is also necessary to increase power to the processor, so when activating BFB the power limit of the CPUs they rise to 125W, compared to the 65W that it consumes with factory settings. This increase in consumption also brings with it an increase in the energy that is transformed into heat, so it will be necessary to install a heatsink better than the one included at the factory to use BFB without problems.

So far not all Asrock Z390s and B365s have received updates. As with anything tweaking, be cautious and careful.

The old FSB overclock was like removed after the first gen core processor, and every attempt to bring it back was either declared unstable or locked down from intel.
I wonder if now that they can't ask you extra money just because of the open multiplier , they finally had to open this door again.
