AMD disclosed the introduction of its Ryzen 7040HS series CPUs, designed for high-end notebook PCs and equipped with an artificial intelligence (AI) engine.

This release follows the launch of the Ryzen 7040U series CPUs for slim notebook PCs in May of the same year. The product amalgamates Zen 4 architecture CPU cores and RDNA 3 architecture graphics cores Radeon 780M/760M into a single chip. The thermal design power (TDP) is upgraded from the initial 15-30W to 35-54W, increasing the maximum boost clock to 5 GHz or higher for all models.

XDNA Adaptive AI Architecture: Ryzen AI

Notably, the series includes the "Ryzen AI" engine, leveraging the XDNA adaptive AI architecture. This feature facilitates efficient AI processing while lessening the CPU core's workload, offering a webcam image enhancement functionality via the Neural Processing Unit (NPU) feature, "Studio Effects Pack," implemented in Windows 11.

Product Assortment and Future Launches

The product assortment incorporates the 8-core/16-thread "Ryzen 9 7940HS," 8-core/16-thread "Ryzen 7 7840HS," and 6-core/12-thread "Ryzen 5 7640HS." Notebook PCs furnished with the Ryzen 7040HS series are slated to be released sequentially from prominent manufacturers such as Razer, ASUS, HP, Lenovo, and Acer.
