AMD Emphasizes Memory Capacity for Modern Graphics Cards Ahead of NVIDIA RTX 4070 Launch.

As the much-awaited NVIDIA RTX 4070 release approaches, AMD has taken the opportunity to emphasize the importance of memory capacity in modern graphics cards, particularly for optimal performance at higher resolutions and textures found in newer games like Resident Evil 4 and The Last of Us Part 1. With these games presenting optimization challenges during their launch, graphics cards with only 8GB of memory suffered setbacks.

Fortunately, AMD had anticipated this issue two years ago and introduced the Navi 21 line of GPUs with 16GB of VRAM. Today, the Radeon RX 7900 series offers even more options, with 20GB and 24GB VRAM choices. This assures gamers using Radeon GPUs that they can comfortably meet high memory requirements. However, running new Ray Tracing modes in games like Cyberpunk 2077 may require more power.

It's worth noting that memory allocation doesn't always mean it's fully used. Games can now adjust texture fidelity based on memory and improve FPS. But, playing newer games at 4K or 1440p resolutions still demands a high-end GPU with more than 8GB of VRAM. While none of the previously released RTX 40 GPUs had less than 12GB of VRAM, rumors suggest that the upcoming RTX 4060 will only have 8GB.

Let's see if we soon see mid-range graphics cards from AMD ... also with 16GB of memory.
