AMD Vega to likely get added to new Mac Pro

AMD Vega to likely get added to new Mac Pro

Yesterday some info appeared in some forums, as it seems a beta version of MacOS Sierra 10.12.2 shows references to several new AMD video cards. Vega 10 is spotted inside the driver as well as Polaris 10 XT2 and Polaris 12.

The news is speculation in its highest form, but the interesting thin is that the driver ID matches recently leaked benchmarks from the database of Ashes of the Singularity, and that card showed performance matching a GeForce GTX GTX 1080

So the likelihood that an AMD GPU finds its way into an Apple product seems viable. Two other GPUs, Polaris 10 XT2 and Polaris 12 have been spotted in the file as well. The first one could be a refresh for the Radeon RX 480, Polaris 12 however would be a new GPU. Time will tell, clock on the thumbnail to see the entry.

Guess this proves Apple will be going with an all AMD build for the next Mac Pro (would also explain why we haven't seen any new versions in a long time - Apple have been waiting like the rest of us :nerd :). :)

If this is true, Vega must have some good power usage.

Great news indeed ! it sounds like Vega 10 will be an all around good video card.
