AMD removes Threadripper 3 from 2019 roadmap

AMD removes Threadripper 3 from 2019 roadmap

An updated client roadmap shows that Threadripper processors are no longer listed, this was discovered by twitter phenomenon @momomo_us. During the presentation of the latest quarterly figures slides, Ryzen Threadripper 3000 alias Castle Peak is no longer on the roadmap, where that was still the case in March.

That can mean two things, AMD may have postponed the third generation Threadripper and wants to clear a path for up-to 16 cores Ryzen 3000 (which makes sense), or Threadripper is canceled (very unlikely), then again the consumer and SOHO market for 16-core and higher processors is small alright.

The most recent roadmap now lists Ryzen 3000 chips for mid-year and Epyc 2 server processors for the third quarter. Both will use Zen 2 cores and will be fabbed on a 7nm TSMC process. previously Threadripper 3 was also in listed, really based on Epyc 2 chips. AMD may give server processors more priority, which means that Threadripper has been postponed. It is unclear why it is no longer on the roadmaps.

I hope it's not postponed too much, because I want to upgrade my trusty 1950x :) Still hoping for fall 2019 :p :D

Threadripper 2 actually, or 3000.

Sarcasm...?
Of course it's "zoomed in"... because Threadripper has been removed. They couldn't just leave a blank spot in its place.

Well, it was already on the far right on the initial road map, without a "date", so I guess they just removed it for now.

I reckon they are not completely cancelled, but I guess they haven't been selling that many of them either (in comparison to the regular Ryzen cpu's).

And if the 16core Ryzen 3000 rumours are true, I honestly don't think they "need" consumer Threadripper cpu's anymore at this point :D
