AMD has unveiled its AMD Ryzen PRO 7040 Series Mobile processors, implementing advanced Zen 4 architecture, RDNA 3 integrated graphics, and a dedicated Ryzen AI engine for high-grade Windows 11 business laptops.

Developed using advanced 4nm technology, the Ryzen PRO 7040 Series introduces significant performance and efficiency improvements for business software, offering up to a 17% performance increase over x86 competition. The processor series also integrates Ryzen AI to facilitate superior AI experiences. Matthew Unangst, senior director of commercial client and workstation at AMD, indicates that "52% of IT managers are lacking adequate technology infrastructure to manage AI workloads. The latest Ryzen PRO 7040 Series caters to the needs of the contemporary workforce with exceptional performance and battery life while introducing a new dedicated AI engine on select models to address the needs of AI development."

Expanding its commercial offerings, AMD has also launched the Ryzen PRO 7000 Series processors for desktops, which come with integrated Radeon graphics, up to 12 high-efficiency cores and a boost capability of up to 5.4 GHz, ensuring optimal performance for professional workloads. The Ryzen PRO 7040 series processors' critical component is the 4 nm Phoenix silicon, utilizing the "Zen 4" CPU microarchitecture and RDNA3 iGPU architecture. This series introduces a Ryzen AI on-die accelerator, designed based on Xilinx's XDNA architecture, to the commercial notebook sector. The silicon includes an 8-core/16-thread "Zen 4" CPU, with certain models achieving up to 5.00 GHz. Each core features a dedicated 1 MB L2 cache, while an overall 16 MB L3 cache is shared among the 8 cores. The integrated GPU meets the full DirectX 12 Ultimate logo requirements, comprising 12 RDNA3 compute units. This corresponds to 768 dual issue-rate stream processors, 24 AI Accelerators (integral to RDNA3 and separate from Ryzen AI), and 12 Ray Accelerators. It also includes 48 TMUs and 32 ROPs. AMD Software PRO supports the iGPU on these processors, delivering enhanced support and specific packages for organizations' remote deployment. AMD is concentrating on on-device AI acceleration software over cloud-based AI workload computation. In commercial computing, numerous AI applications like image processing, GPTs such as Microsoft Office Co-pilot, and AI-based data analytics can function without data leaving the device. All Ryzen PRO 7040 processors include the complete AMD PRO features stack, encompassing PRO Security, PRO Management, and PRO Business. PRO Security delivers 7-layer data security, including a secure enclave, memory encryption, and additional microarchitectural fortification. PRO Management provides remote device management for an organization's system administrators, while PRO Business establishes unique support channels by AMD to aid organizations in managing their notebooks' hardware and software. The Ryzen PRO 7040 mobile processors are categorized into two classes: the thin-and-light segment (35 W to 54 W) featuring the Ryzen 9 PRO 7940HS, Ryzen 7 PRO 7840HS, and Ryzen 5 PRO 7640HS, and the "ultraportable" segment (15 W to 28 W) consisting of the Ryzen 7 PRO 7840U, Ryzen 5 PRO 7640U, and Ryzen 5 PRO 7540U. All models, excluding the 7540U, are equipped with Ryzen AI. Ryzen 7 and Ryzen 9 models carry an 8-core/16-thread CPU, while Ryzen 5 models adopt a 6-core/12-thread configuration.
