AMD Hudson D3 chipset more versatile then P67

by Hilbert Hagedoorn on: 02/16/2011 09:07 PM | source: | 0 comment(s)

Some details on the upcoming chipset for next generation AMD processors have surfaced. The Hudson D3 chipset is to be paired with AMD's upcoming desktop Fusion processors as some of you might know, as this info shows it will bypass any current Intel chipset according to a leaked slide.

So the chipset that will be combined with Llano APUs is named Hudson. The Hudson D3 will be the high-end chipset SKU from AMD and can be compared to the current Sandy Bridge chipset and features.

Based on the comparison the AMD Hudson D3 chipset will get a luxurious 6 SATA III (6G) connectors and standard (native) four USB 3.0 ports. Intel only offers 2 SATA III ports and no USB 3.0 (they all com from extra NEC controllers).

Video output wise you can expect more flexibility as well. On the other hand what surprizes me is that we don't see an embedded Gigabit Ethernet jack, most motherboard ODMs choose a Realtek integration anyway. In fact even on H67/P67 (which has an embedded Gbit jeck) ODMs still opt a Realtek solution.

Precise specs will be revealed once Llano desktop processors, or I should say APUs, are unleashed onto the market, which according to sources should be in the 2nd quarter of this year. Have a peek at the leaked slide, courtesy of donimhaber.
