AMD Epyc 9654 CPU becomes the fastest in PassMark

EPYC 9654 is twice as fast as Core i9-13900KS. PassMark's list of high-performance processors has been updated, and the fastest CPU in the comparison has been identified as the AMD EPYC 9654 Genoa. 



This model has a significant lead of almost 37% over the second-place processor, (also from AMD). The AMD EPYC 9654 is equipped with 96 cores and 192 Zen 4 threads, running between 2.4 GHz and 3.7 GHz. While this is slower than the AMD Ryzen Threadripper PRO 5995WX, which runs at 4.5 GHz and has 32 cores and 64 threads, it still offers impressive performance. Additionally, the EPYC 9654 processor has 384MB L3 cache and a 360W TDP. The AMD EPYC 9654 is the first processor to pass the 100k mark on the PassMark CPU benchmark, scoring 124,119. The runner-up, the AMD Ryzen Threadripper PRO 5995WX, scored 95,539 in the same test.

Compared to the top-performing processors from Intel, such as the Intel Core i9-13900KS and the Intel Xeon Platinum 8380, the AMD EPYC 9654 is twice as fast. Despite this comparison being somewhat unfair, it demonstrates the impressive performance of the new server processor.

With the release of these new processors, AMD promises up to 2.8 times more performance when performing tasks in servers, as well as 54% less energy expenditure during workloads. The company offers 18 different models, with configurations of up to 96 cores on a single processor. The processors also support the latest industry features and architectures such as DDR5 and PCIe Gen 5 memory, making them suitable for AI and Machine Learning tasks. They also support CXL 1.1+ for memory expansion while maintaining an all-in feature set. Additionally, the AMD EPYC 9654 CPU uses a new socket, SP5.

AMD is already working on an update to the fourth generation of EPYC processors, named Genoa-X. These upcoming server CPUs will have similar configurations but with much more L3 cache, increasing from 1 GB.
