AMD could be restructuring once more

BSN reported an intersting story earlier that AMD might be preparing one more round of restructuring, a pretty significant one as well. The reorganization would be announced later this month. Sources claim the restructuring is supposed to be an extension of June's reorganization and it's rumored that the number of job cuts will not be as massive as AMD's earlier.

As BSN reports:

Those two divisions are the Enterprise, Embedded and Semi-Custom Business Group and Computing and Graphics Business Group. As stated before, John Byrne will be responsible for the Computing and Graphics Business Group while Lisa Su will head up the Enterprise, Embedded and Semi-Custom Business Group. Now, the restructuring that is being discussed now (and supposedly already being set in motion) is supposed to be an extension of June’s reorganization/restructuring. This will very likely result in some people changing their roles within the company as well as some people being laid off, as generally seem to happen with major reorganizations. While there are no definite figures of how many people will be let go, it did not sound like those numbers were massive like the culling of 2009 through 2012.

Unfortunately, there aren’t that many details about exactly how many people could be laid off, but this sounds like a long term plan execution rather than a reactionary cut due to poor earnings. However, there were some indications that this next restructuring would very likely come after AMD’s 3Q 2014 earnings which is on the 16th. It remains to be seen how investors will react to this news, but if AMD has poor earnings for 3Q 2014, it may be seen as a reactionary restructuring rather than a planned one which is how it was interpreted by our sources. We are labeling this as a rumor because it isn’t an official announcement, however this is essentially already a done deal.

I just do not understand the doom and gloom. The new nvidia cards were first to be so energy efficient. While 7xx and amd 2xx were pretty much equal. Before that there was never this efficient card apart from the 750. O.o

If AMD is finished we are ****ed.

If AMD is out of business and it`s only nV on video cards market then it will be monopoly and trust me nV and Intel doesn`t want that.

Nv have nothing to do with that. This is allways the CPU buizness who is in question here. Its more a problem for Intel than anything.

But well with the last announces this month and previous one of AMD ( as the synopsis relation one ) , + all the investment put on the table thoses last months, im not sure they are so "finished".

We can ask us if this is not stranger to a part of an internal restructuration on the R&D and process design. They are restructuring a bit on their R&D departement for CPU, they send 150 engineer to Synopsis to take care of the AMD licence IP and at same time gain access to the IP level of Finfet and library, design from Synopsis. ( Who tend to make believe Samsung fundries should be producing the next AMD chips with 14nm Finfet or 16nm Finfet )..
I tend more to believe that is certainly true for the Opteron ARM 64bit, i m not so sure it is the case for their x86 CPU and GPU's anyway
