Adata recently updated the firmware on its XPG Gammix S70 SSDs. This patch should improve speed on disks that are over 50% full. While this appears to be true, version 3.2.9.1 raises a massive concern.

After running the update, some users are now reporting that their Gammix S70 or S70 Blade is no longer recognized in the bios. Those impacted say these are the models running 3.2.F.P7 firmware (version before the update). Users who upgraded from 3.2.7.3 to 3.2.9.1 report no issues. The update has already been withdrawn from Adata's website, although it is unclear if it is still available via SSD ToolBox.

Owners of the Gammix S70 and Gammix S70 Blade should not update the firmware until the company clarifies.

Update: We just received word from ADATA that the firmware now has been replaced with the new firmware update tool  (3.2.9.V) for GAMMIX S70 & GAMMIX S70 BLADE. End users can download the new firmware from the website and won’t have any issues now:

Any bricked drives can be exchanged by contacting ADATA customer service.
