Nvidia and partners launch GeForce GT 740 Series

Nvidia launched an entry level graphics card tagged under the name GeForce GT 740. This would be an entry level graphics card with 384 Shader cores, 32 TMUs, 16 ROPs, and a 128-bit wide GDDR5 memory interface, holding 1 GB of memory. Partner press-releases and photo's can be found after the break.

MSI Announces its GeForce GT 740 Series

MSI launches the GeForce GT 740 with two cards, the N740-2GD5, which features 2 GB of GDDR5 memory, and the N740-2GD3, which features 2 GB DDR3.These cards are based on the same board design, and offer NVIDIA-reference clock speeds of 1006 MHz core.

The N740-2GD5 features reference GDDR5 memory clocks of 5.00 GHz, while the N740-2GD3 offers 1782 MHz (DDR). Based on the 28 nm GK107 silicon, the GeForce GT 740 offers 384 CUDA cores, 32 TMUs, 16 ROPs, and a 128-bit wide memory interface.

I'd be more interested if these were single-slot cards. Seriously I don't know why single slots are becoming so rare these days - there ARE reliable coolers for them. I'd rather sacrifice a few degrees in order to access another PCI(e) slot.

I think nvidia needs to start re-working their naming scheme. Ditch the "Ti" branding and just spread out the numbers. But please, nvidia, don't follow the new AMD naming scheme.

Just look at 820M, yes it is a Fermi based GPU... after GTX750 Maxwell based everything else looks old.

Well, currently this is better than having no dedicated GPU... Unless you're from the future, then clearly this card is worse than any 2017 integrated GPU.

Nope.3GB is just too little for today games and the GTX 880 will be released sooner then u think.If it doesn`t come until july then...I don`t know,maybe I`ll get a cheap 780Ti,maybe some 6GB ?, and a G-sync monitor.
