Intel today released a new hexacore processor, the Core i7 990 Extreme. Alongside this processor Intel also released twelve new Xeon server processors.
The new 990X is the same as the 980X (3,33 GHz) with a tiny speed bump. The processor is clocked at 3,46GHz and has the usual 12MB L3-cache and 256KB L2-cache. Priced at 999 USD it will make the 980 a bit cheaper we expect.
Next to this desktop consumer processor Intel released 12 new Xeon processors of which the top model will be the X5690 and equivalent to the 990X specs yet with support for ECC memory, this puppy will be priced 1663 USD.
Intel also intro's a few E label processors which are more energy efficient at a 80W TDP.
Also, the quad-core Core i7-960, which is clocked at 3.20 GHz, is now priced at $294, displacing i7-950, and providing an alternative to Core i7-2600K, which is effectively MIA till the LGA1155 chipset issue is resolved.
