Yeah you are still paying a premium for a MOBO and DDR5 but as the x3d cant be OCed you dont need a top end board anyway.
You can get Motherboard and DDR5 at reasonable price and all the X3D's can be overclocked. 7800X3D 5600Mhz This is not mine it is from SkatterBencher .Me personally not 100% sure if I will be grabbing 7800X3D tomorrow and overclocking but if I did with normal cooling I would be able to get good results in overclocking the 7800X3D

Impressive. By the time i need to upgrade (6 years from now) Intel hopefully has a similar CPU with such efficiency/performance.

How many pc's are running around the world in total? I wonder. How much power is used overall? I'm old but I do believe we need to be thoughtful about the environment.

I'm sure I read it was locked like the 5800x3d

Great CPU, the best for gaming, but it doesn`t seem to be as good as the 5800x3d. The 5800x3d had a big gaming performance over everything else while the 7800x3d doesn`t bring the same performance gap. It`s basically a tie between the 7800x3d and the 13900K, with the first having a big advantage regarding power efficiency over the later. So while the 5800x3d is a legend, the 7800x3d is "only" very good. For me, this CPU is not worth the premium over the 7700x, that i`m considering for my next build, but for those who have an high end CPU and want the best, it`s between this and the 13900K. Great review and get healthy Hilbert!

Manual multiplier overclock is not possible, but it is a bad way of overclocking anyway, because it most likely lowers the peak boost clocks. Maybe the more practical PBO max clock frequency offset is locked aswell not sure. Some boards limit the chip to 1.2 Volt, but it is pretty much uncoolable over that voltage anyway.

Some games really like the cache and the 7800x3d really flies ahead of the 13900k and sometimes uses half the Watt/FPS. Factorio Stellaris Anno 1800 Asetto corsa DCS world Microsoft flight simulator Farcry 6 Dirt 5

Yes, the 7800x3d manages great results in some games but in the end the difference doesn`t seem that big compared to the other CPUs, specially the 13900K. While the 5800x3d managed a big difference against all the other CPUs available at time, unless i`m mistaken about it.

1st 😀 really looking forward to this review, and than buying discounted 5800x3d
I was considering the exact same thing. 🙂 The 5800x3d can be had for as low as $300-330 in the USA right now.

This was true months ago, not anymore.

Just killer value right there for gamers, with also potential upgrade paths later. Just with the review i noticed 10th gen was in there, was 12th gen data not available :O?

damn it, it's so good, but 515e here, enough to build a 13600k+z790 and transfer my 4133 ddr4, or a whole new 12600k+z690+ddr5 one. amd needs to do something about the policy of v-cache r7 skus as the competition for mainstream i7s. good thing I can wait it out and see what happens with r8000 vs. 14th gen. 7800x3d might be under 400 by then.

Almost no motherboards have an external clock generator to OC multiplier locked CPUs, why do you think they bother lock them? The mobos which do cost an arm, a leg, a liver, 2 kidneys, and 4 hearts.

yeah, get a 600eur mobo to oc a 520eur cpu, no thanks.

What are the chances of buying one of these at MSRP this April?

FSB overclocking, just like you can do with any CPU even if it's locked, he had his FSB at 110Mhz as opposed to the standard 100Mhz (a +10% overclock) - problem with that is that it overclocks various other connections on your motherboard like your connection to GPU and SSD, so overclocking FSB too far can cause instability in other attached items rather than just the CPU.
