Lets just hope people don't wait for Zen, just so they can buy cheaper intel products but rather, wait for Zen and buy Zen, that'll tell Intel to stop being stagnant.

Same as the last update, Intel seems not to stray from their path. They don't even care if Zen will come out.

Intel with way too many "tocks" and not enough "ticks". Guess they don't need many "ticks" due to lack of competition.
It's been a very long time since AMD actually delivered on any of their hype; circa 2004-ish with the AMD 64FX or X2 64?
I would say AMD stopped really competing in the CPU space right around the time they acquired ATI. That's also about the time Radeon started to become a second-class product.

Still another couple of gens/cpus before I uprade I think...
The ol lady still chugging along. Plus am only really playing Fifa17 and Wows so not taxing.
Might get BF1 though so that will be a real test to see if/how long I can last.
P.S Dont want to turn into the general though.

Oh look an exciting and well priced new Intel CPU, said no one ever. Well another year with my old 2500k It seems. If Intel does something it will be with Cannon. What about those hexa cores Coffee Lakes? Are they for the desktop or they are underpowered laptop chips?
As for AMD's Zen seeing Intel so confident I fear Zen will not be that good. I hope they will be good enough to force Intel to level up their game. We all gonna benefit if Zen does it.

I really want a new CPU but I don't know if this will be it. Might be.

Better get a i7 now if you must go with another 4core..
I bought mine now 3.5yrs ago and by really cpu intense games it does make a noticeable difference 🤓

If anyone's interested I looked at the % gains in the charts...
All bar two tests give between a 7.5% and 8.8% gain to Kaby Lake, relative to the Skylake i5. The two exceptions are the WinRAR test, giving Kaby Lake a 15% advantage, while CS6 is only 5%.
If we look at clock speeds, taking the base clocks we'd expect a 8.6% margin to Kaby Lake, with max turbo clocks giving a 7.7% margin. So those benchmarks are absolutely spot on where you'd expect them, assuming Kaby Lake is simply Skylake with slight clock bumps.
Interesting the 4 core turbo clocks should give Kaby Lake more than 11% advantage, though that doesn't seem to bear out in these tests (if they're even genuine).

Would rather wait for a worthy upgrade for my 3770k and spend the money on a new GPU than a new CPU/MOBO/RAM.
The past few years has reminded me of the stagnation of CPU advancement we had in the 1980s, only to have the gimmicky 90s (MMX anyone?) before things got exciting after the turn of the century.

I expected more performance from architectural changes.. but looks like it's just some tweaking and most of the benefit comes from the improved 14nm line and speedstep 2.
The graphics should be about 25% or so faster though, but it seems almost nobody on the forums care about that in the slightest.
