AMD's Upcoming EPYC Genoa-X CPUs to Feature 3D V-Cache for Improved Performance and Efficiency
The EPYC lineup from AMD is set to receive a boost with the upcoming Genoa-X CPUs, which will feature the new Zen 4 core along with 3D V-cache integrated into server offerings. Leaked specifications reveal that the two SKUs, "100-000000892-04" and "100-000000892-06," will offer top-end performance.
These CPUs will have 12 Zen 4 CCDs and a single I/O die, with each of the CCDs featuring a 3D V-cache stack of up to 64 MB of L3 cache.In terms of specifications, the EPYC Genoa-X CPUs will offer 1248 MBs of functional cache, comprising 384 MBs of L3 cache from CCDs and 768 MBs of L3 cache from 3D V-Cache stacks, and 96 MBs of L2 cache. With a TDP of up to 400 Watts, configurable to 320 Watts, these CPUs can boost up to 3.7 GHz.
The EPYC Genoa-X CPUs are expected to hit the market in the middle of 2023, with the EPYC 9684X being the top chip with the maximum 96 cores and 1152 MB of L3 cache. Other models include the EPYC 9384X with 32 cores, EPYC 9284X with 24 cores, and the EPYC 9184X with 16 cores. These chips will be positioned for cache-optimized workloads, similar to the previous generation of 3D V-Cache EPYC CPUs. With support for the same SP5 platform, the EPYC Genoa-X CPUs can be easily integrated with existing offerings from OEM, making them a versatile and efficient choice for servers

Inclusion of X3D technology in data centres might not do anything for performance though since most software that does benefit from this, and the software that does would be one that's sensitive to cache sizes primarily.
However, as it was noted, it can certainly help with efficiency (which is always important in data centres).

There are smartphones still in use today that have less RAM than these CPUs have cache. Granted, they are outdated phones, but still used nonetheless.
