AMD Unveils Radeon RX 7700 XT and 7800 XT Graphics cards at $449 and $499 and FSR3 update

AMD has officially announced its highly-anticipated graphics cards, the Radeon RX 7700 XT and 7800 XT. These additions to the company's product range cater to the mainstream to high-end graphics market segment.



Despite experiencing delays in their release, the cards offer commendable shader capabilities, supported by 12GB and 16GB GDDR6 graphics memory, respectively. Such features position them to excel in the WQHD (2560x1440) monitor resolution sector.

Radeon RX 7800 XT

Following a series of speculations in the GPU sector, AMD's Navi 32-based models have now been confirmed. The Radeon 7800 XT stands out with its 16GB 256-bit memory configuration, operating at 19.5 Gbps. This version harnesses the full potential of the 60 CU / 3840 Shader processors of the GPU. Furthermore, it operates with a Total Board Power (TBP) of 263W. Built on the Navi 32 SKU blueprint, the Radeon RX 7800 XT integrates four Memory Controller Domains (MCDs). The GPU core comprises 3840 cores, evenly allocated across 60 Compute Units to maximize performance. The GPU also integrates a remarkable 64 MB Infinity Cache, operating at an 18 Gbps pin speed, delivering an impressive total bandwidth of 576 GB/s. The USD pricing is $499, meaning close to 550 Euro in the EU.


 

Radeon RX 7700 XT

The Radeon RX 7700 XT, another Navi 32 variant, has a 54 CU/3456 shader processor setup, bolstered by 12GB memory on a 192-bit bus running at 18 Gbps. This design suggests a Navi 32 version with one of the four MCDs deactivated, leading to 48 MB of Infinity Cache. Notably, the core configuration of the RX 7700 XT is designed to contain approximately 54 Compute Units, which accommodates a sum of 3456 stream processors. The USD pricing is $449, which is close to 499 euros. Guru3D will be releasing reviews once the embargo lifts on September 6th.

An update about FSR3

AMD's forthcoming upscaling technology, FSR 3, remains under development, with no official release date set. However, industry speculation hints at a possible launch by the end of 2023, primarily due to the initial announcement made in November. In the slides, AMD showcases Forspoken at 4K running 36 FPS on average and 122 FPS with FSR3 enabled. A core objective behind AMD's new generation of upscaling is to present stiff competition to Nvidia's offerings. The FSR update will also bring a new native AA mode towards the technology. This iteration is eagerly awaited as a boon for older hardware systems, promising enhanced utility. While these details shed light on what FSR 3 might bring to the table, AMD has noted that some features may undergo changes during the development phase.

FSR 3 Fluid Motion is a technology designed to double the frame rate by generating alternate frames through the estimation of intermediates between two consecutive frames produced by the GPU. This process is analogous to the mechanism employed by DLSS 3. During the initial presentation, the company refrained from delving into the intricate details of the FSR 3 technology. However, a demonstration was provided using the game "Forspoken." Furthermore, the Maximum Fidelity preset in FSR 3 operates similarly to DLAA. It leverages the detail regeneration and AA attributes of FSR without necessitating a resolution reduction.

AMD has unveiled that the upcoming games “Forspoken” and “Immortals of Aveum” will be among the first to capitalize on the FSR3 technology. "Forspoken," developed by Square Enix, may not have lived up to the hype during its January launch, but it serves as AMD's demonstration platform for the new FSR3 capabilities. When AMD ran "Forspoken" at a 4K Ultra High RT preset, applying the FSR3 Performance preset propelled the game’s frame rate from a mere 36 FPS to an impressive 122 FPS, indicating a boost of almost 3.4 times. On the flip side, “Immortals of Aveum” has generated attention, not just for its FSR3 integration, but also as the debut game to operate on the Unreal Engine 5.1. While AMD has showcased the potential of FSR3, it remains tight-lipped on comprehensive details surrounding FSR quality levels and compatibility with Radeon and other GPU variants. As the gaming world keeps a close watch, more information and potential advancements are eagerly anticipated.

AMD states in its slide that FSR3 is 'coming soon'. However, during its presentation, it mentioned Q1 2024 for the release.

HYPR-RX

For development for as long as I can remember is HYPR-RX, which recently got delayed due to compatibility issues. AMD mentions HYPR-RX again in their slide deck. AMD is in the process of developing a new technology known as Hypr-RX, designed to improve user experience by amalgamating three distinct functions. Once activated, Hypr-RX will:

  1. Boost: This function is set to dynamically reduce the resolution when motion is detected in a frame, ensuring that performance remains consistent.
  2. Super Resolution: Leveraging a specialized algorithm, this feature will upscale games, providing clearer and sharper visuals.
  3. Anti-Lag: Aiming to optimize real-time interactions, the Anti-Lag component is crafted to minimize input lag, ensuring responsive gameplay.
  4. Fluid motion frames are also going to be embedded into this suite.

While these features hold significant promise for elevating gaming experiences, AMD has yet to announce a definitive release date for Hypr-RX.

September 6th, the cards will be available.
