Graphics card memory: GDDR5X to make an appearance

Interesting, over the weekend new slides appeared on the web originating from Micron - regarding a new memory technology. As you guys all know, HBM memory that AMD right now uses on their Fiji GPUs is the next big thing. Future HBM2 and higher revisions are however costly and complicated to fab to get large amounts of memory onto that die. It looks like the intermediate solution could be GDDR5X.

Though I’m not quite sure if I’d be using/choosing Ashes of Singularity for a test like this myself, it is an interesting read. Anandtech posted some benchmark testing a feature in DirectX 12 called asymmetric multi-GPU. Mixing GPUs, even from different brands.

Next months Fallout 4 release will receive some extra eye candy for Nvidia graphcis card owners as the game has Nvidia gamworks enhancements enabled in the game. That by itself is good news, albeit certain effects as such might run worse or not at all on AMD videocards.
