EVGA details ICX Technology

After the thermal pad VRM overheating debacle EVGA probably figured, lets overcompensate that error by showing we care about temperatures. They are now introducing EVGA ICX which features nine thermal sensors located on the PCB.

Each sensor will be connected to their tweaking app where the temperature can be monitored and displayed in the OSD. Three RGB diodes which are installed on the side of the card will change colors depending on the temperature of the GPU, VRM and memory. Similar to implementations quite a few manufacturers already have like Gigabyte, ASUS and some MSI models that change color based on say the GPU temperature. The marketing catchphrases on this one are quite funny as they will also introduce independant fan control, something tried and introduced by many brands. Yet no consumer really cares about that 'too much fuzz' feature. Now, you know what async compute is right? Well EVGA now has called that feature async fan control :--)

Anyway below an excerpt of the why and how and then the marketing slides of course. Click to enlarge of course.

Why was iCX Technology Created?

With PC gaming growing, it is important to provide "Peace of Mind Gaming" to the user. With EVGA's new iCX technology, users can have a better understanding of their cards operation. This includes temperature monitoring on key components (not just GPU), interaction with other devices and better cooling with asynchronous fan control providing better overclocking capabilities. With EVGA iCX technology, a new era of PC gaming is coming.
