AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D: Similar Gaming Performance on Budget A620 Motherboards

Published by

The AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D processor has rapidly garnered attention due to its remarkable gaming performance on both X670 and A620 motherboards. Despite a slight performance discrepancy in multi-threaded applications like Cinebench 23, the A620 chipset is emerging as a cost-effective option for those seeking an entry-level transition to the Zen 4 and AM5 platform.

The A620 motherboard boasts a base specification of an 88W PPT and a 65W TDP, making it well-suited for Ryzen 7000 non-X processors. However, it is essential to recognize that the A620 chipset's integrated power delivery subsystem could potentially constrain the multi-threaded performance of more advanced SKUs. Although motherboard manufacturers can enhance the power delivery subsystem on A620 boards, doing so would elevate the price and place it closer to that of B650 motherboards.

A Korean YouTuber compared the Ryzen 7 7800X3D's performance on an MSI Pro X670-P WiFi motherboard and a Gigabyte A620M Gaming X motherboard. The former outperformed the latter due to its 14+2+1 design. While the clock speed difference between the two motherboards did not notably affect gaming performance, the MSI Pro X670-P WiFi achieved a 5% higher Cinebench R23 score.

This comparison is one of the initial tests contrasting A620 and X670 motherboards when paired with a Ryzen 7000X3D processor, and further examinations are necessary to validate these preliminary results. For budget-conscious gamers, an A620 motherboard may be adequate for a Ryzen 7 7800X3D CPU. However, those seeking to fully exploit the processor's capabilities might consider upgrading to a higher-end motherboard.
