Windows 11 2H22 brings game improvements running on DirectX 10 and 11 / DirectStorage Compatible

Windows 11 2H22 brings game improvements running on DirectX 10 and 11 / DirectStorage Compatible

Microsoft's Windows 11 2H22 update, officially published last week, promises a slew of enhancements for gamers. The business claims that the upgrade significantly enhanced the performance of games based on the DirectX 10 and 11 APIs, focusing on lowering latency.

Microsoft promises that numerous games will receive automatic HDR capabilities and support for working with variable refresh rates (VRR) while in windowed mode. Before the update, these features required full-screen playback and were limited to DirectX 12 titles.

The new control bar in Windows 11 2H22 has also improved game support. It will now display the most recently begun and games when triggered by pressing Windows + G (or the middle button on the Xbox controller), allowing users to return to games they play regularly swiftly.

Windows 11 2H22 is DirectStorage compatible.
The upgrade also adds support for DirectStorage to the operating system, allowing users to deal with various storage configurations, including RAID0. This gives PC owners more alternatives for preparing for the technology's introduction, which should coincide with Scorn. Windows 11 2H22 will also include more natural narration voices, greater focus features, new ways to control Smart Apps, and other security and performance enhancements.  Microsoft aims to invest in future smaller, point-in-time updates to the operating system. The first wave is expected to arrive in October, including a new tab system for File Explorer, an improved Photos app, and new options for sharing files and information from the clipboard.

The main update can be done through Windows Updater or by downloading it directly from the Microsoft website.

It's nice that Auto-HDR will now also be supported on DX11 games. I find this feature a lot better than the game developers' native hdr feature. If you turn on auto hdr and then when in a game turn off the native hdr, auto hdr will kick in provided the game is being supported. Usually, a lot of Dx12 games can do this already, but it's nice to see that DX11 games also get this now. Oh, and yes you have to run the game at least once before auto-hdr kicks in. Hopefully, titles such as Elden Ring will now be able to be supported.

Will this update finally allow HDR calibration? If so, then we can simply just use auto hdr and let windows use our calibrated values/profiles instead of messing with the game's settings...

I myself don't play only new video games, also not all new video games use the DirectX 12 API.
