THEA500 Mini: Amiga returns as a retro device with 25 preinstalled games

The Amiga 500, abbreviated as A500, will be given a second life. The 16-bit home computer was a huge hit in Europe in the late 1980s. Now in 2022, Old Games Ltd. and Koch Media have released THEA500 Mini, a new model reminiscent of previous retro consoles.

The product is legally licensed though Commodore's brand name Amiga is avoided. 25 games are preinstalled. Because the THEA500 Mini will let you to use your own games via USB stick with full WHDLoad compatibility and a variety of other choices. Additionally, convenience features such as the ability to save at any moment are provided. Retro Games Enterprises Ltd. The created THEA500 Mini emulates not only the original A500 (OCS) and future versions' Enhanced Chip Set (ECS), but also the A1200's Advanced Graphics Architecture (AGA). Along with the device itself, the scope of supply comprises an original 2-button mouse and a newly built 8-button gamepad.

An external standard keyboard can also be connected. But it also means that the THEA500 Mini's keyboard on the device itself is only a decoration. An HDMI cable and a USB-A to USB-C cable are also included in the scope of delivery. The buyers have to own a power supply unit, unfortunately this is not included. The THEA500 Mini is expected to cost EUR 129.99 in Germany.

Additional features include a selectable refresh rate of 50 Hz or 60 Hz, a CRT filter and several scaling options. The following games have already been confirmed as pre-installed:

  • Alien Breed 3D
  • Another world
  • ATR: All Terrain Racing
  • Battle Chess
  • Cadaver
  • Kick Off 2
  • Pinball Dreams
  • Simon The Sorcerer
  • Speedball 2: Brutal Deluxe
  • The Chaos Engine
  • Worms: The Director's Cut
  • Zool: Ninja Of The 'nth Dimension

More games will be announced at a later date. The Amiga 500 Mini will go on sale for 140 US dollars, 120 British pounds or 130 euros. Come to think of it, I actually have the original thing still lying around somewhere at my attic.

Shadow of the beast, Speedball 2, Xenon 2 (all the bitmaps brothers and the team17 games...), the Origin games (before it was trashed by EA)...
Yes it was great.
The question is: what will be better, the actual amiga continuation emulating old hardware, the regular PC emulator or this small thing? (not considerating the price of course)
I hope to find out when aviable :)
