Take-Two sold 65 million copies of GTA V

Take-Two sold 65 million copies of GTA V

Now that's a cash-cow. Even in the last quarter Take-Two sold 5 million copies of Grand Theft Auto V. Ever since the release in 2013 (consoles saw the release first) they now have sold 65 million copies. Rockstar will soon announce which new projects the studio is working on. The numbers appeared in the released Fiscal Year 2016 results that got published.

The company expects even better reults for fiscal year 2018 (that fiscal year starts in April 2017), likely due to the unannounced products that will soon be announced (E3?).

GTA5 was released in 2013 and launched on XBox 360 and PS3 first. Incredible as it may sound, the company did not have any profit yet had a loss of 8.3 million dollars, the created revenue was 1.4 billion dollars (I kid you not).

Since they made almost all of their money on consoles, they should think about making losses with an timely exclusive console launch. Not the best idea as it seems.

If anything, the game cost something between 150 and at the most, 250 million to make (and that's a very, very expansive game production already). The rest is crappy management and useless junk like financing blu ray and playstation royalty fees, keeping online gaming servers running, etc.

One thing I'm only waiting for is people saying pc port and optimisation cost that much... can't be more an a few millions if the full game costs 250mil at maximum. And if they'd have done their work and didn't let PC gamers wait forever, they might have sold more copies there too.
