Star Citizen developers allegedly wasting money

Star Citizen developers allegedly wasting money

Chris Roberts and his Cloud Imperium Games studio are being hit hard in a Forbes report. The article accuses the developer of incompetence and mismanagement.

Star Citizen, the great space epic of Wing Commander creator Chris Roberts, is delayed, delayed and delayed. This is not news but has been known for many years. A Forbes report now raises heavy questions and charges against Roberts last week. He is blamed for "galactic scale incompetence and mismanagement ."

The article outlines the development history of the project since its public launch in 2012. Again and again, it is suggested that Roberts enriches himself personally on the project - as example, he and his wife are reported to have a house worth $4.7 million.

The criticism of mismanagement is based on the comments of 20 former employees who characterize Roberts as a "micromanager and poor resource managers". Wing Commander 4 producer Mark Day reports from his now completed development period that Roberts' "old, bad habits" have re-emerged. "It was out of control." The report names some spicy numbers. By the end of 2017, Cloud Imperium had only $ 14 million in financial reserves. The studio currently employs 537 people, according to Forbes, with salaries totaling $ 30 million a year. Forbes has also counted the previously sold spaceship models and has come to proud 135 pieces. The US Trade Commission FTC now has 129 complaints from buyers, claiming up to $ 24,000.

The implicit conclusion of the report: The game never gets finished. Roberts finally "stopped guessing when Star Citizen be ready." After all, the creator can defend himself in the report. "Star Citizen is playable," he is quoted in the article. "It has more features and content than many ready-made games." The state of development from the current Alpha we reported last week.

I have backed Star Citizen loooong ago, during its first announcement days. Now after all this time I still have my Super Hornet and a large pile of salt.

Personally, my hype turned into typical "meh". Yes, there is a lot of stuff that has been done, but overall the progress is way too slow for such a pile of cash they were sitting on.
The loyalty of their fanbase is beyond belief.

When developers start to buy houses worth 5 million and the game still is not finished, and probably never will be .. I think it is valid to raise questions. From the very beginning, SC has been looking like a big cash-grab enriching Chris Roberts and the likes, I still am not seeing that change.

I'm original backer, and I lost any sentiment to this game long ago. For some reason there is defense force by people who still are delusional, but going back in time the fact is, Roberts never actually finished anything by himself, maybe except first WC. It is nice he do continue his vision, but it is not so nice that there is no way to see this game finished in years to come. He simply is not a good manager, and this article shows it really well. I do not care anymore, I have real, working games to play, at least even Elite is better choice.

They DO seem to put an awful lot of effort into making new spaceships for people to buy
