Qualcomm's 4nm Snapdragon W5 Plus Gen1 smartwatch platform

Qualcomm announced the new platforms "Snapdragon W5 + Gen 1" and "Snapdragon W5 Gen 1" for wearable devices.

The brand name has also been changed from "Snapdragon Wear" to "Snapdragon W," since it has been redesigned as a wearable-optimized processor. The "Snapdragon W5 + Gen 1" manufacturing node for premium smart watches uses the newest technology of 4nm SoC with 22nm coprocessor, with significantly enhanced performance and power efficiency over the previous generation. The second "Snapdragon W5 Gen 1" CPU does not have a coprocessor and is planned to be used mostly in fitness smart bands.

Snapdragon W5 1024x576 "Snapdragon W5 + Gen 1" features a CPU of A53 x 4 / M55 250MHz x 1, graphics configuration of A702 1GHz + 2.5D GPU, and memory of LPDDR4-2133MHz. When compared to the previous generation "Snapdragon Wear 4100+," performance is doubled and battery consumption is cut in half. In addition to supporting twice as many functionalities as before, it is now feasible to create devices that are 30% smaller.

Qualcomm claims that OPPO and Mobvoi have embraced the "Snapdragon W5 Plus / W5 Gen 1" platform. According to reports, the whole industry is working on creating smartwatches in 25 different styles.
