NVIDIA likely to launch dual GPU videocard January

by Hilbert Hagedoorn on: 12/02/2008 05:33 PM | source: | 0 comment(s)

Guru3D.com ImageMore rumors on the web appeared today claiming that NVIDIA is going to release a dual GT200 based graphics card early January 2009. Probably in the CES timeframe. It's even rumored that NVIDIA is so far ahead with production that the first samples could be shipped towards board partners late December already.

The entire purpose of the release would obviously to kick ATI of their performance crown with the Radeon HD 4870 X2 and as our GTX 260 SLI results have shown, that can be done quite well.

Just like the Radeon 4870 X2 and 9800 GX2 the card will have two GPUs likely one PCB. The question obviously remains what chips will be used exactly.

It would make sense to see the GeForce GTX 260 core 216 chips on there. Also expected is a fabrication processes shrunk toward 55nm.
