NVIDIA creates a gaming studio to remaster classic PC games
Nvidia is assembling a game studio team to work on classic PC games by adding real-time ray tracing. It is not clear which games are involved, but previously Nvidia Quake II already gave a modern variant with raytracing.
According to a job listing, the green team has created a studio that will specialize on adding Ray Tracing effects to remasters of even more classic PC games.
NVIDIA is kicking off an exciting new game remastering program. We’re cherry-picking some of the greatest titles from the past decades and bringing them into the ray tracing age, giving them state-of-the-art visuals while keeping the gameplay that made them great. The NVIDIA Lightspeed Studios team is picking up the challenge starting with a title that you know and love but we can’t talk about here! We’re building a team of talented, dedicated game developers who are ready to get going quickly. We are looking for an experienced Producer to join the NVIDIA Studios team.
What you’ll be doing:
- Lead the production on an RTX remaster project, including scope, schedule, resourcing and risk management
- Work with partner teams to track status and optimize collaboration
- Maintain and disseminate project status information through multiple internal and external teams and departments
- Develop and maintain processes and tools needed to support partnership projects and technical collaboration
NVIDIA created this job listing 17 days ago. In other words, this is after the release of Quake 2 RTX.

There's a lot of games that would hold up today with modern textures and lighting. Even making their geometry significantly more detailed wouldn't take a ton of work for some.

Maybe for Quake 1 $600 will be enough to play.
