NVIDIA and AMD Graphics card shortages to last thoughout H1 2021

It has been a pain for many gamers; if you can even get a new graphics card, they are too expensive due to low availability. Both AMD and NVIDIA have extensive shortages for numerous reasons. Both companies now also state that these shortages will last throughout the first half of 2021.

Two interviews have been conducted with key personalities from each company. Market analyst Harlan Sur had a chat with NVIDIAs CFO Colette Kress. According to her, the shortages are essentially caused by persistently high demand. The chip designer expects that the supply will be insufficient during the first quarter of the fiscal year. And yeah, Nvidia's first fiscal quarter won't end until the end of April. In the short term, it will therefore remain difficult to purchase a new Ampere GPU.

On team red, the Radeon side, Ian Cutress from AnandTech spoke with AMD CEO Lisa Su. She also highlights that the stock problems are mainly caused by high demand. However, she mentions this as well; the lack of components supply also would continue until the end of June. Production would not be able to meet demand again until the second half of 2021.

NVIDIA and AMD are trying everything they can to get as many cards as possible in the hands of consumers. NVIDIA could release specific mining cards with no display ports. AMD would offer reference designs on its website for a longer period of time, selling directly to consumers. This allows the card to be sold for an amount closer to the suggested retail price. The company recommends that its partners do the same.

So I survived 1st mining craze to be offered either ridiculous 20xx RTX cards or semi-ok AMD 5xxx card with a chance of blackscreens. Than everybody was like - hold on, dont buy current gen, get next gen, it will be so powerfull that it will depreciate the price of old gen completely (which was true and 2080ti owners will deffo approve) .. and now these cards will be sold out straight up for a year since release..

You know what? PC gaming has a big problem. My gtx 970 still plays the games I want to play. But god damn it the eff is this crap?

I don't think we should blame just a single thing, but it has surely caused a lot of issues, especially earlier on.

At this point I just lost all hope tbh. Whenever I will finally get a 3000 card it will the most underwhelming feeling of "happiness" I ever had after buying a new piece of hardware. And yeah, the crypto boom couldn't have happened at a worse moment in time.
