MSI Adds GeForce RTX 3080 GAMING Z TRIO and GAMING TRIO PLUS

MSI Adds GeForce RTX 3080 GAMING Z TRIO and GAMING TRIO PLUS

MSI silently added two new RTX 3080 SKUs, the GAMING Z TRIO and GAMING TRIO PLUS. All cards look and are the same components-wise. However, there are subtle differences.

The differences seem to be slightly revised venting holes on the display connector side, and the backplate is a notch different. The PLUS model has the aforementioned changes. The dimensions (323 x 140 x 56mm) are identical to the original except for the weight. The GeForce RTX 3080 Gaming X Trio weighs 1,565g, while the GeForce RTX 3080 Gaming Z Trio 10G and GeForce RTX 3080 Gaming Trio Plus 10G check-in at 1,537g.

The TRIO Z however has received a slightly faster Boost clock frequency and increased power allowance to 370W. No clue as to why MSI decided to create two completely new SKUs for it. Both graphics cards support up to four monitors simultaneously. The display outputs layout remains untouched with one HDMI 2.1 port and three DisplayPort 1.4a outputs. Pricing for the GeForce RTX 3080 Gaming Z Trio 10G and GeForce RTX 3080 Gaming Trio Plus 10G is currently unknown.

If these are indeed different SKUs, so not just revisions, then I would not be surprised if they had the mining limiter on them too.

Unless nvidia only does that to unreleased models from now on.

I'm 99% sure it's the latter.

Either way, beautiful cards. It's not like the miners will care about it though, they will just end up bunched with all the others in their mining farms to never see use in an actual "game" (despite their overly "gamey" naming)...

Oh, another imaginary 3080? really? One can just wonder what drives AIB partners to tirelessly continue wasting unneccessary ressources to ven design variation of cards that mostly go into a market where all this 10% markup OC marketing bla does not count a penny. All this can serve is "tradtitional" customers just getting pxxxxxd off even more with each and every "announcement" of products that are pracxtically unavailable - it's as much fun as a visit to the dentist by now.
I really think nvidia should force their AIB partners to stop this crap and keep mum until the shelf situation has largely improved.

I'd like to flash my Gaming X Trio to a Z, 30W extra is always something.
That would be possible, right?

Yes there, it should work

Did you tried any other BIOS like Strix or FTW3 or Suprim?

Hope this helps

Thanks, Jura

Not yet due to fear of bricking an unreplaceable card :)
