Microsoft stops selling Xbox Live Gold annual subscriptions
Microsoft has discontinued offering year-long subscriptions to Xbox Live Gold. It is still permissible to purchase the service per month or per quarter. Microsoft would change its Live Gold subscription with the introduction of the Xbox Series X.
In the Microsoft store you can only buy subscriptions for a month or three months. "Xbox has decided to withdraw the subscription from the Microsoft store for 12 months," said a spokesperson. The company gives no reason for the cancellation of the annual subscriptions. Microsoft has confirmed that it is not an error, but a conscious choice. That choice has not been further explained.
A Microsoft spokesperson said, "At this time, Xbox has decided to remove the 12 months Xbox Live Gold SKU from the Microsoft online Store. Customers can still sign up for a one month or three month Xbox Live Gold subscription online through the Microsoft Store." Unfortunately, the company did not specify the reason why it has decided to delist the 12-month option.
As of yet, we don't know why the 12-month offer has been removed. Both the one month option (at $9.99/£6.99) and three-month offers (at $24.99/£17.99) are still available to purchase. It's possible that this could be some sort of error on Microsoft's behalf, but many customers across the internet are also speculating that Xbox Live Gold will soon be phased out or fully combined with Xbox Game Pass in some way. Currently, it is still possible to purchase 12-month subscriptions from third-parties.

^^Do people actually buy their subs from MS directly, as they can be had far cheaper from third party sellers, always have been, i stacked 3 years of gold in 2019 for £24 a year whereas if i had bought it directly from MS it would have cost me £39.99 a year, same with this GPU sub, i had been topping GPU up from third party sellers by grabbing 3 months of the normal gamepass for £7 from sites like CD keys when there were on sale, which once redeemed converted to 2 months of GPU, so you could stack up a year of GPU for £42, you just need to keep a eye out for the deals when they appear.

And of course MS rewards also basically giving your £60 free a year to spend on the Xbox or W10, and all for the sake of 1 min of searching on Bing daily, MS are throwing money at gamers and i love it.

Possibly they are going to merge gold and gamepassb ultimate into one which would be fine by me as gamepass is fantastic, so not having to buy another sub in the form of gold would be right up my street
There was Gold then Game Pass, Game Pass Ultimate included Gold since it's start, hence why a lot of Xbox Gold subscribers switched over since the cost isn't much higher, at least not here.

MS Rewards is not worldwide though.

Tried to order an (1year and 2 year) XBL membership on Costco and both were denied. I wonder if buying a few codes now would save some money in the future though.
