LG 34UC98 curved UltraWide FreeSync

LG 34UC98 curved UltraWide FreeSync

FreeSync certainly is getting widely adopted. UltraWide monitors from LG that support AMD FreeSync all had been restricted to 2560 x 1080. The LG 34UC98 (also 34UC98-W) is a curved 34” UltraWide screen with 3440 x 1440 resolution, in addition to the inclusion of VESA Adaptive-Sync for AMD FreeSync support.

The panel used is a 34” AH-IPS unit with 3440 x 1440 resolution (21:9 aspect ratio), 1000:1 static contrast ratio, 178°/178° horizontal/vertical viewing angles and (3800R) curvature reports pcmonitors:

The screen surface is very light matte anti-glare, providing a very smooth look to the image and preserving clarity and vibrancy better than stronger matte surfaces. The panel itself is 60Hz, but VESA Adaptive-Sync has been included for AMD FreeSync variable refresh rate support. The particulars on this model suggest a 48 – 75Hz variable refresh rate range. A 5ms grey to grey response time is specified.

A flicker-free WLED backlight is employed which uses enhanced phosphors to offer complete sRGB coverage (and a bit of extension beyond), with a typical maximum luminance of 300 cd/m². A‘Reader Mode’ Low Blue Light (LBL) setting is also included to help further improve viewing comfort. The screen is factory calibrated, whilst 10-bit colour is supported (8-bits per channel plus FRC dithering). The ports include; DP 1.2a (with Adaptive-Sync), 2 Thunderbolt 2 ports, 2 HDMI 1.4 ports, a 3.5mm headphone jack and 4 USB 3.0 ports (plus upstream). DP 1.2 and Thunderbolt 2 both support 3440 x 1440 @60Hz, with DP 1.2a being required to use AMD FreeSync with this model. 2 x 7W Maxx Audio speakers are also included for richer sound output than most integrated solutions will provide. The rear of the monitor is glossy and white – and for those who don’t like the included stand, 100 x 100mm VESA provision is included with holes beneath the mounting bracket.

We will provide improved images and further information on this product including price and availability as we have it. It’s one of the models being shown off at CES 2016, so it shouldn’t be long before further information is available. Some of the current information can be found on LG’s Korean website.

Although limited to 60hz, it looks to be a great monitor...

21:9 - 2 years from now, yes.
Right now 16:9 is still the way to go for general gaming.

because 27'' inch screen is what you're left with - if the game does not support 21:9(!) on your 34''

Pish posh. 21:9 is the king right now. Many games support this ratio.. pretty much all current games do by default.

In the time I've had my x34 predator, I can fill it out in Farcry 4, Witcher 3, heck, even Pillars of Eternity supports it..

specfications says 48 ~ 75 (Freesync) Hz, so max refresh rate is probably 75Hz.

I think the 60hz is referring just to Thunderbolt input.
