Kingston releases external SSDs with read and write speeds of up to 2000MB/s
Kingston has released new fast external SSDs in 500GB, 1000GB, and 2000GB sizes. The USB-C SSDs employ the USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 interface and deliver read and write rates of 2000MB/s, according to the manufacturer.
The Solid-state drives are housed in a metal and plastic casing. In terms of size and weight, the measurements are 79.5x32.6x13.5mm and the weight is 58 grams. The USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 interface has a potential maximum speed of 20Gbit/s, which can be achieved by utilising it. In practice, this is most likely close to the advertised speed of approximately 2GB/s. End of last year, Gigabyte also released external USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 SSDs capable of speeds up to 2GB/s, and Western Digital's WD Black P50 external SSD is capable of rates of up to 2000MB/s, according to the company. The 500GB, 1000GB, and 2000GB versions are available for purchase through a web store for 128, 210, and 379 euros, respectively.
Kingston does not indicate differing speeds based on the capacity of the device. According to the product page and datasheet, all versions achieve reading and writing speed of 2000MB/s in both reading and writing applications. In the case of the external SSDs, Kingston does not specify which controller is used or what type of NAND memory is used. Silicon Motion, on the other hand, claims that the XS2000 is equipped with its new SM2320 controller.
