Intel introduces Coffee Lake generation of desktop processors

Intel introduces Coffee Lake generation of desktop processors

Intel today announces its eight Core generation of desktop processors with two Core i3 quad-cores, two Core i5 hexacores without HyperThreading and two Core i7 hexacores with HyperTreading.

This new family introduces the first-ever 6-core Intel Core i5 desktop processor and first-ever 4-core Intel Core i3 desktop processor. The family offers a wide range of performance options for consumers with unlocked “K” processors that deliver maximum tuning flexibility at each brand level and up to 40 platform PCIe 3.0 lanes for system expandability on graphics, storage and I/O. These processors are supported with new Intel Z370 chipset-based motherboards.

The announcement shows what has been circulating for a while now, including the specs. Coffee Lake processors are fabbed at 14nm, similar to Kaby Lake, Skylake and Broadwell. The speed gain can be found by the additional cores mostly. The architecture of the CPU and GPU did not change compared to Kaby Lake.

Combined with the CPU and Z370 chipset you get up to 40 pci-e 3.0 lanes and ddr4-2666 memory support, the proc has x16 available for graphics.
See the presentation slides below, the processors are available starting October 5th.

Intel still does not communicate with 95% of the EU press, including Guru3D thus I have no info or samples at hand from Intel.

But yes, through other contacts I was able to get hold of an ES and will have reviews ready for the 5th.

Not trying to "ruin it" here (reviews or ppl), but im supposed to pay more to get an unlocked cpu (vs amd), i need to pay waaayy more to get 8C/16T (X board and cpu) and only get 2666Mhz ram (at least for now).
nope, not gonna happen.
