Intel Core i9-10850K $449 10-Core Alternative is now Official, priced 453 USD

After all the gossip and chatter, Intel decided to make the  Core i9-10850K official, basically to stay price-performance competitive against AMD's offering.

Zooming in on the specs you can see 10 cores and 20 threads, a 3.6GHz base frequency and 5.2GHz boost frequency. Line that up against the i9-10900K and you'll see that proc has a base frequency of 3.7GHz and boost at 5.3GHz, so we're looking at an i9-10900K running 100MHz less. It remains to be a simple Geekbench leak, nothing else is known about the processor, it is not clear if it is a model that will be sold in the market, or that it'll find its way into pre-assembled systems. It is a K model though, multiplier unlocked.

Update: the processor has been spotted, costs 453 USD and will be used in pre-fabricated systems.

Update #2: Whoo there horsy, look at that. The processor has been spotted in retail with some SKU listings after all. it looks like the product will be available at some etailers.

Update #3: July 27th, 2020. Intel now has officially released the product and added it to its slide decks. It's the value proposition towards the 10900K at a more reasonable price, here's the product stack.

It's a K model so I suspect it will be up for retail. I sure love how AMD and Intel keep trading blows lately.

What they should do is make a non K than can do something like a guaranteed 5.2 ghz on like 5 cores or something. That would be an interesting product.

what they should do is stop artificially locking their lineup in the first place nothing on amd is locked unless u have some cheap a320 mobo, even if they would just allow memory overclocking at least then the 10400 could compete.

Unless they have binning issues for the i9 I don't really get why this exists? As it's a K model you could just overclock it to the full i9-9900 in 5 seconds.

The point of such CPUs is that they can sell a lower binned part. It may not meet the requirements for a 10900K, but it runs fine 100MHz lower. If you buy this expecting it to OC as good as a 10900K, you would be disappointed.
There don't have to be any binning issues. Binning is part of every stack. The best dies become 10900K, slightly worse become 10700K. If they can put something in between to sell dies that still have 10 fully functional cores, just clock a bit worse, thats a win for them - assuming people buy it.
