Intel Core i7-8705G with Vega M Shows Impressive Scores
As you all know, Intel has released their Frankenstein chip, that 4 core 8 threaded Core i7-8705G with that multi-chip module with AMD, by adding a Radeon RX Vega M GL GPU (which has its own 4GB HBM).
The bro's at hothardware have been able to pull some numbers with the proc/gpu combo and compared it to a similar laptop with GeForce MX 150. So the XPS 15 2-In-1 we tested here was configured with a Core i7-8705G processor (3.1GHz base, 4.1GHz boost), the aforementioned Radeon RX Vega M GL graphics engine, 16GB of DDR4 memory, and an ultra-fast NVMe SSD.
At a full HD resolution, the the XPS 15 2-in-1 could manage an average frame rate of nearly 35 frames per second with High image quality settings enabled
If you take a similar 8th generation Core system with Intel's own integrated UHD 620 graphics, even at medium quality settings, the Intel UHD 620 would only manage about 8 frames per second. However if you take it up a notch and go for a 8th generation Core processor paired with an NVIDIA MX 150 GPU, that solution would get roughly 23 frames per second measured at High IQ settings. The XPS 15 2-in-1 will begin shipping in the Spring with a starting price of $1,299.
Um yeah, I'm still calling it a Frankenstein chip ;)

interesting.
What would be desktop hardware to achieve similar score?
I would guess for 1080p something in an area of GTX 950... / 750Ti even.
If Cost is decent, we can have a very nice set of laptops for hopefully cheap price and in a nice form factor. Sounds great to me, small but powerful laptop for your work / travel, that can run some oldie game.

Is this SOC actually better from cooling perspective than present solution?
It means, know we have 35W / 45 W TDP CPU + GPU modul which in Geforce 1050 is 75W (desktop) or intel give now 65W or 105W chip..
What is better from cooling point of view, 2 chips with lesser TDP, or 1 with big?
I always thought for dividing power and 2 chips solution would be better

depends, 2 chips give more surface area, and is easier to cool, but an soc will only need one heatsink which will be cheaper to manufacter,
I would expect this platform to use one larger heatsink to cover both chips since the mcm is quite compact , best of both worlds really.

Not bad results. You could do some light gaming on these. Heck 1080p on medium might be doable on this. Or heck 720p on high.
