Intel Core i7-7700K Kaby Lake Spotted in SiSoft Sandra Database

Intel Core i7-7700K Kaby Lake Spotted in SiSoft Sandra Database

Though the desktop processors will not be releasing anytime soon that I know of, somebody made an entry in the SiSoft SANDRA Database with a Intel Core i7-7700K (Kaby Lake) processor.

As planned Intel is going to release Kaby Lake architecture based processors in the coming months. The desktop processors based on Kaby will use LGA 1151. Two processors will be an unlocked K series processor.

The entry backs the info we shared earlier, it is going to be a processor with its base-clock at 4.2 GHz and a Turbo to 4.5 GHz alongside 8MB of L3 cache and Hyper-threading. On interesting thing to not is that the processor indicates another / new chipset. That would be the Z270 chipset, however if should support existing LGA1151 chips. The Core i7-7700K scored 151.94 GOPS. Its "Processor Multimedia" score yielded is 379.8 Mpix/s. T

The Core i7 7700K listed would be a quad-core with HyperThreading enabling 8 logical CPUs. The clock frequencies have changed towards higher numbers though. As it stands now this flagship quad-core processor is clocked at 4.2 GHz and can Boost to 4.50 GHz. To compare a little, a Core i7 6700K runs at 4.00 GHz with a boost to 4.20 GHz. The cache is the same, 256 KB per-core L2, and 8 MB shared L3 caches. Clock-for-clock and core for core you should not expect much performance differences though. The processors will use the current socket LGA1151 which means that after a motherboard firmware upgrade, you should be ready to go with your current motherboard. The second K model would be the Core i5-7600K and will get a 3.80 GHz clock that may boost towards its 4.00 GHz Turbo. It will have less L3 cache (6 MB) and also will lack hyper-threading. Lower in the stack will be lower TDP based SKUs like the i7-7700 (non-K) with a 3.60 GHz base clock and TBA turbo clock.

  • T - Power-optimized lifestyle

Even at 35 Watt there will be a Ultra Low Power quad-core processor, the Core i7-7700T will have 2.90 GHz clocks and 8 MB of L3 cache.

Intel is expected to launch the 7th generation Core processor family for Desktops, alongside the 200 series chipset, later this year. Kaby Lake is Intel's third CPU micro-architecture for the 14 nm process, after "Skylake" and "Broadwell."

As for the i7-7700K morsel: what we basically have in Kaby Lake is Devil's Canyon+. The glaring problem with that is Devil's Canyon's i7-4790K was July 2014 and clocked at 4GHz/4.4GHz turbo. 2-2.5 years later we have Kaby Lake's i7-7700K rumored to be clocked at 4.2GHz/4.5GHz turbo. .1? Come on....

Even if you find AMD pfft... this is why that Zen needs to be better than the early rumors we are getting. We all need it to work. Take that dump truck to the spray and wash, hose her down, put some new wheels on and go baby go.

That's a decent bump. My Sandy Bridge systems are getting long in the tooth.

2018... same old, same old.

The problem is that there is no "killer software" that would really use more cores for the general consumer. Very few people actually do video encoding, rendering or scientific computation which might need that horsepower offered by the many-cores.

VR unfortunately is not that killer software, and I don't see anything else on the horizon (not yet anyway).

However, I predict that the future will be about "AI", with computers starting to think ahead of us, not just responding to our input (and they would need all the cores they can get to process the massive amounts of data available and customize them for their user). Hint: The movie "Her"

Until that happens... everyone enjoy your quad cores...
