Gigabyte Aorus confirms, Rocket Lake will also work on Z490 motherboards

It's like kicking in an open door, however, it never was confirmed. Z490 motherboards are designed for the announce Comet Lake-S processors, but of course will also support the following proc series, Rocket Lake.

That however never was confirmed, However, Gigabyte in an Aorus live stream slipped the word out and confirmed it. And it's important to know as Z490 motherboards are PCIe Gen 4.0 compatible, just not with Comet Lake, but with Rocket Lake processors. Rocket Lake (RKL) is a planned microarchitecture designed by Intel as a successor to Comet Lake for desktops and high-performance mobile devices, based on 14 nm fabrication.

Why did we need confirmation?
Intel is doing what it has done for as long as I can remember,2 gens of CPU's with a board, even if the new board doesn't add anything they still force you if you are an
Intel follower.

from the video with Ian from Andantech and level1techs youtube I think they explain some motherboards will have a dedicated M.2 nvme slot 4.0 slot to use the added pcie lanes
or something like that
I read nothing about comet lake I use 10+ USBs 6x SSds 3x Nvme 10Gbe network and need free pcie bandwith for other cards so 16 cpu lanes is not even half of what I use

Z boards now offer plenty extra since Z3xx, 40 total with CPU's 16. What you are going to miss is PCIE 4.0

edit: so basicaly Z4xx should be entirely skipped If you care about pcie 4.0 , but you probably shouldn't. :rolleyes :o_O
