eVGA to leave Europe ?

by Hilbert Hagedoorn on: 06/02/2010 09:05 AM | source: | 0 comment(s)

An interesting rumor comes from Hardocp today, apparantly the manager responsible for EU activies was fired. This could indicate that eVGA is leaving Europe, right after BFG left here as well. The person involved here is Hans-Wolfram Tismer and granted, i met him a  couple of times when active at eVGA and Gainward is a bit iffy. It might just be the fact that he's leaving eVGA for other resons.

" Joe Darwin of EVGA explained, that "EVGA is not closing its European operations." Joe would however confirm that Wolfram was no longer with EVGA European operations, but he would not use the word "fired" to describe Wolfram's leaving. Our thoughts on this are that EVGA keeping its European operations open without Wolfram is akin to cutting the head off a snake and expecting the rest of it to survive; the body might still be moving, but is it really "alive?" Wolfram was the lifeblood of EVGA's EU operations.

It was also reported to us that EVGA had "dismissed its entire Taiwan motherboard team," and this would signal "no more motherboards coming from EVGA." Talking to Joe Darwin on this topic he laughed it off and told us that EVGA had not dismissed its motherboard team.

While the truth is not to the surface yet on the details about these rumors, it is sure that something is happening behind the scenes at EVGA. Wolfram leaving EVGA Europe is a "big deal" for the company. It will be interesting to see how that plays out, but replacing Wolfram is likely not going to be an easy exercise. As for EVGA's motherboard business, I am not sure the rumors we are hearing are fully accurate, but I would guess that something is surely playing out.

Joe Darwin's closing statement with us was that EVGA is doing "business as usual."

Update - minutes after posting this news eVGA submitted the following statement:

EVGA planning to give European operation a boost
