Cooler Master SK650 and SK630 low profile keyboards

Cooler Master SK650 and SK630 low profile keyboards

Cooler Master launched two low profile mechanical keyboards from its new SK series, the SK650 and SK630.

“We created the SK series with design and functionality in mind. Especially for those who are workers by day and gamers at night.”

says Bryant Nguyen, Peripheral General Manager.

The SK650 and SK630 are slim profile mechanical keyboards with the perfect balance of “work and play.” The SK series features Cherry MX low profile switches that provide a reduced travel distance and actuation point with the same signature durability and precision as a standard red switch. The boards are equipped with Type-C USB for convenience. Per-key backlighting, surrounding light bars, and macros can be fully customized through Cooler Masters easy to use Portal Software Application. On-the-fly-controls allow real-time adjustments to lighting and macros without the need of software, including Windows Lock On/Off to prevent accidental actuation during game play. Users can choose from two sizes depending on preference. The SK650 is a full layout keyboard while the SK630 is its little brother, a ten keyless layout for users with limited desk space.

Cooler Master will also release a Bluetooth and wireless version of aforementioned keyboards later this year as well as the SK621, a 65-key compact keyboard, perfect for on the go, available in late March. The wireless versions, SK651, SK631, and SK621, will be available in gunmetal black and later also in white. Cooler Master will offer models that are Apple and or Android compatible.

Pricing and Availability

SK650: £159.99 (Pre-order)

SK620 is not mentioned, but it has its image there.

Anyway, Low profile is only 1/2 of the game. Low Travel is 2nd part.

Official site states:
"All the durability and precision of traditional Cherry MX switches, now with a travel distance and actuation point reduced by 0.8mm."

That's not exactly a lot of information. Seems like they shaved that on both distances.
- Trigger on 1.2mm
- Total travel 3.2mm

If it was ~1.3mm and ~2.6mm, I would order it on spot.

What does "low profile" stand for? Cause I don't think RGB fits into "low profile" agenda.

yes it is low, the keycap are like 1/3 compared to regular one and the switch are the low version...
But despite i think it's a "RGB led overdose until puke" the led doesn't take much space as there are pre-fitted led space in the switch on actual production...

i like the “We created the SK series with design and functionality in mind. Especially for those who are workers by day and gamers at night.”
because like that you don't mind to buy it "oh no it's to work at Fortnite, so it's OK... lol "

Is there a variant without all the lights on it?

A nice flat black one would be perfect, the size of this is nice.

Early actuation and then much longer travel is not something I am to buy again. That extra time it takes to disconnect is pretty unpleasant. Even dome switches do better at that. They practically stop right after you press enough to make electrical contact. And release connection moment key starts to travel up again.
