BDXL offers 100GB & 128GB Blu-ray discs

by Panagiotis Georgiadis on: 06/26/2010 09:45 AM | source: | 0 comment(s)

Blu-ray Disc Association (also known as BDA), announced today the final media specifications for the new Blu-ray format, called BDXL (High Capacity Recordable and Rewritable discs) and IH-BD (Intra-Hybrid discs). We are excited to hear that there two versions of the forthcoming multi-layer BDXL Blu-ray format.

The first one is "write-once" only and has a capacity of 128GB . According to the press release at Los Angeles, this media aims to meet the expectations for commercial broadcasting and medical or document image requirements. Instead of this, we expect some ultra HD three dimensional movies like Avatar, just for our 3D-eye satisfaction.

The second version is about a 100GB inside into a "re-writable" Blu-ray disc. Well, imagine that you work at Pixar
