ASUS RT-AC56U Dual-Band Wireless AC1200 Router

by Hilbert Hagedoorn on: 05/27/2013 10:21 AM | source: | 5 comment(s)
ASUS RT-AC56U Dual-Band Wireless AC1200 Router

ASUS today announced the RT-AC56U concurrent dual-band router, which supports new-generation 802.11ac Wi-Fi. It usesa dual-core 800MHz processor and 256MB onboard DDR3 memory to ensure strong performance in 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands. Powerful hardware translates into 867Mbit/s on 5GHz and 300Mbit/s via 2.4GHz, or a total of 1167Mbit/s as the two frequencies can work simultaneously.

ASUS AiRadar beamforming technology enhances mid to long range connectivity

Exclusive ASUS AiRadar technology intelligently strengthens connections based on the number of devices linked to the RT-AC56U and their position relative to the router. High-powered transmission amplification and beam packaging optimize signal stability and delivery in any direction. Compared to similar routers that do not feature ASUS AiRadar, the RT-AC56U extends Wi-Fi coverage by up to 150%, making it a good choice for larger homes and offices.

USB 3.0 and USB 2.0 ports for server functionality and fast sharing

The RT-AC56U includes one USB 3.0 port and one USB 2.0 port, the former working up to ten times faster than the latter. Customers can easily turn the router into a file, printer, or 3G/4G server thanks to its USB connectivity, and share data and resources for greater efficiency. USB 3.0 delivers high speed file sharing and HD content streaming from router-connected devices. Bundled Download Master software allows for downloads to continue directly to connected USB storage from the RT-AC56U even when all associated PCs are powered off. Non-stop downloads save customers time, especially with ever-larger high definition multimedia files.

User-friendly interface and designed for the cloud

The ASUS AiCloud app works with the RT-AC56U, allowing customers to access the router from wherever internet is available using Android and iOS smart devices. The free app supports mobile sharing, streaming, and syncing of content across different devices. The RT-AC56U uses the latest version of the ASUSWRT firmware, which enables 30-second setup with no disc media required. ASUSWRT offers access to the two concurrent transmission bands with their combined 1167Mbit/s bandwidth, as well as various router management functions that are all presented in an intuitive and easy to understand manner.

AVAILABILITY & PRICING

The ASUS RT-AC56U is exclusive to North America and EU markets. Availability planned for late June/early July, with an MSRP of EURO 149,-.

I have a Assus RT-16N and don't feel the need to change it just for home use. Fells some of the best money i spend, even if at the start there was not such a big support now because uses nearly the same firmware as the new asus units i got no problems (use to have DDWRT firmware but now back on Asus oanes)
