Apple and Broadcom have to pay university 1 billion after patent infringement
Apple and the American chipmaker Broadcom must jointly pay a nearly nauseating amount of money of (1.1 billion dollars to the California Institute of Technology (Caltech) for patent infringement.
A jury has decided that the companies have committed the violation of three patents, Law360 reports. It concerns patents regarding the use of wifi chips. The technology described is used in hundreds of millions of chips for iPhones, iPads and MacBooks worldwide to improve its operation. Caltech sued Apple in 2016 for patent infringement. Apple and Broadcom denied that they had infringed the relevant patents. According to Law360 , the companies argued that the technology described is unusable and that they had no reason to violate the patents, knowingly or unknowingly. Broadcom tells Law360 that it is planning to appeal against the jury's verdict. Apple has not responded to the news service.
Apple has been charged $ 839 million, Broadcom must reimburse $ 270 million.

That would be like 0.05% of Apple's cash reserves. Outrageous! Apple will be left destitute.

What kind of jury would be qualified to understand any of the technical details of this supposed infringement???? Might as well have a jury of monkeys throwing bananas.

Surely a good Lawyer would compile all the relative details and jargon into a somewhat understandable script to present to the Jury? That's what I think anyway.
