AMD Vega To get 20K Units Released at launch and new Zen+ chatter
The ongoing rumors about Radeon RX Vega are just, on-going. In the latest news it is reported that there will be 20K Units for Vega available state some media. There might be news about Zen+ inbound as well.
This particular Vega rumor comes from Tweaktown who decided that news from HardwareSfera is an "exclusive industry source. Other than that there are no credible leads or facts on this info, but yeah apparently they would launch with a maximum of 20K units. Which actually makes sense, as most releases in the high-end see such numbers typically. The volume availability might be a bit more limited due to the fact that HBM2 still is in short supply.
There’s another rumor floating on the web that claims that AMD will reveal more info on Vega-, Navi- and Zen+-architecture op May 16th. Here the information was derived from a pending Financial Analyst Day where the CEO of AMD will speech a bit. How the media gets to the fact that she’ll talk about Vega-, Navi- and Zen+-architecture, I have no idea. New technology roadmaps are expected to be released as well.
In an AMA on Reddit AMD already stated they will prolong ZEN architecture with Zen2 and Zen3 as Zen+.The first iteration of these would be Pinacle Ridge with a release in 2018. This series should get another 15% IPC improvement.
So likely next week we’ll hear a bit more on Vega and ZEN+, AMD will also be live-streaming the event.

looks like ill have to start saving for the refresh hopefully the memory prices will have come down by then and compatibility will be better.
As for vega i expect the launch to be a lot like the fury x was.

I just might upgrade my 1800x come ryzen refresh XD just because the platform supports and I can. If they get +15% IPC and higher clocks for sure.

I don't understand why the HBM2 would be such a bottleneck. It's not new technology anymore, per se, it's just development from the original HBM. Didn't they learn anything from the first one?
If this is indeed true, it's far too easy to say that Nvidia made once again a much more sensible decision by using GDDR5X, which apparently has no supply problems despite being nothing but a further development from GDDR5, just like HBM->HBM2.

In the notes it discusses that Zen+ is expected to have 15 percent IPC increase. IPC properly stands for "Instructions Per Clock", although Intel seem to have changed it to 'Indicative Performance per Core". They can claim a 10 percent IPC increase just by having a 10 percent high clock, but going by the proper definition the IPC is the same. The term IPC is therefore meaningless, they should just say 10 percent performance improvement because that is what it is! From what I understand of AMD's use of the term, they simply don't mean 15 percent clock increase (giving the 15 percent boost), they actually mean 15 percent for the same clock? Or maybe the clocks increase 10 percent and the remaining 5 percent comes from architectural improvements?
What do people think, are AMD using the exact same fake misleading description that Intel uses, or is it based on actual improvement?

The same happened during the launch of Fury X, IIRC. It's not surprising. Given the anticipation and the hype surrounding this launch, I expect all Vega units to be sold out/booked within 6 hours from launch/pre-order. Guess reviewers may need to share review samples like they did during Fury X launch.
