AMD 7900-class GPU Radeon HD 7800 in November?

AMD 7900-class GPU Radeon HD 7800 in November?

More and more rumors appear that AMD will release a new Radeon HD 7800 series graphics card in mid-November. The site HT4U explains that the new model will bridge the gap between the Radeon HD 7870 and the Radeon HD 7950, it will feature a Tahiti LE GPU, a slower version of the Radeon HD 7950.

In the past AMD had a Radeon HD 4830/5830/6930, but the site's sources reveal the card is unlikely to be launched as a Radeon HD 7930. It's said to be classified as a Radeon HD 7800 series model, and HT4U speculates it could be something along the lines of "Radeon HD 7870 Boost Edition".

Sucks that the main site was down, would have liked to have read that :)

Not in the market for it though, I think it's just to wet our appetites before the real news comes out - the HD8000 series.

At a guess, just an assumption based on the HD8000 series rumours, this new interim card may be called the HD7930...? (based on the rumour of the HD8930).

The amount the 78xx series overclock they are close to a stock 7950. Good to see something with 79xxx hardware though.

I bring other links about it..

The card is similar of what we had expect appear as a HD 7930 back in the start of this year, but applying the same technic of Nvidia by pushing it in the midrange card lineup ( as is the GTX660 TI using GK104 ).

Could well be the case, even if i will not bet my house on it.
This will permit to AMD to clean Thaiti cores before launch the HD8970-8950, the end of the year and christmas holliday approach, and like we will not see a midrange HD8870 before 4-5months ( maybe even more )
stay on good place against Nvidia competition cards.

The card based on Thaiti core should pack 1536 SP and end faster of a 7870 OC.
Still the question is to know if the card will pack 1.5-3gb or a more exotic 2gb memory setup ( exotic due to the memory controller of Thaiti sku who is a 384bits memory controller ) .

The 7950 standard are disappear vs the 7950 Boost edition, so there's a bit of place between 7870 OC and 7950, but still both cards are realy close.

This short term decision look too a bit strange, as AMD have lower price and offer good bundle for the HD7000 series, and so there's not really a need for a card like that.

As was point someone, as AMD is now on the lead on all benchmarks parts, this card could well be just extremely limited in quantity , to clean stock and keep their cards on the top of the benchmark list on all level...

WHY? This is so useless, they need to move on to next gen who in their right mind would buy A7XXX or N6XX series right now?
I wont, even for low low price. Because it will be obliterated by the next gen

Hell in some benchmarks 660TI is close to my GTX580.

First, this is a rumor... then understand midrange cards are released in general several months ( 2-3months ) after the release of the High end SKU cards.. ( the little example is the 460 and 660 TI released nearly 4months after the initial 480 and 680 ) when we know the next generation should not come before Jan or even march 2013... you can easely count a 5-6months before seen the apparition of new midrange cards.

If thoses cards appear, this will be in limited quantity and are surely mostly there for clean production before anything else.. And this will change nothing to the release date of new series. ( who are allready in developpement since 2-3years ) . ( many different developpement and engineer teams are working on a certain level, when they have finish, they work on the next one after pass the baby ( R&D technology ( who never work for a specific architecture generation > Architectures designer and production developpement > Specification of the cards designer etc )
