Acer Preps Predator Helios 500 laptop with Ryzen 7 2700 and RX Vega 56

Acer Preps Predator Helios 500 laptop with Ryzen 7 2700 and RX Vega 56

Interesting, Acer is currently working on a Predator Helios 500 laptop, that by itself is nothing new, however, the product is listed with a Ryzen 7 2700 and RX Vega 56 graphics unit.

I'm not quite sure how power friendly the setup would be with an AMD Ryzen 7 2700 8-core processor and Radeon RX Vega 56 graphics. The inclusion of the energy-hungry Radeon RX Vega 56 is really the surprising element here. While it's likely down-tuned, there currently are no specification listed.

Acer's model Predator Helios 500 notebooks will not just be AMD Ryzen/Radeon based as they will offer an Intel i9-8950HK + NVIDIA GTX 1070 combo as well. The AMD Part will get Freesync compatibility and Nvidia a GSync version. The Helios 500 laptops will all get a FullHD 144Hz panel. Pricing is to be announced.

@Hilbert Hagedoorn : Take one of your Vega 56/64s and downclock by 10% + downvolt to edge of stability. Now, you can make lovely article about transistors being exponentially more power hungry with clock and voltage required as they pass certain threshold.

150~200W. CPU can do well within 65W. And GPU Power consumption depends on their cooling design and clock at which it stays within it. (If they want, they can clock, volt it low enough to fit 75W.)

Vega Draws low power under 1.30GHz, anyways can be an Mobile version with less clock and cores

greetings
