In a test, it has been measured how YouTube viewers would behave when only paying users can view videos in high picture quality. The test was conducted as part of an examination into methods of luring individuals to the Premium membership.

Since the beginning of this month, YouTube has been conducting a test in which a limited number of users cannot see high-quality videos without a paid membership. YouTube has not previously distinguished between free and paid users. The video platform now states on Twitter that the evaluation that led to this distinction has concluded.

The video platform has recently experimented with numerous methods to encourage consumers to subscribe. Mid-September, the site also conducted a minor test in which viewers were required to see ten short advertisements before a video played.

Unknown at this time is if YouTube will implement a subscription service with good image quality shortly.
