Xiaomi Releases Mi Box Android TV-mediaplayer with 4k- and hdr-support

Xiaomi Released the Mi Box Android TV-mediaplayer that comes with Ultra HD and HDR-support. Ultra HD can be played back at 60hz indicating HDMI 2.0, the media player will make an appearance in the USA first.



The existence of the media player was unveiled during a session on Android TV during Google's  I / O developer conference, it will be available soon at least in the US. That makes the Mi Box the first Android product that Xiaomi officially sold outside Asia.

Mi Box is built around a quad-core Cortex A53-soc which offers a Mali 450 GPU with 2GB of RAM and 8GB of storage memory. The system on a chip also has a modern video decoder board which not only can handle the popular H.264 codec, but also new formats like h.265 video and Google VP9 codec. A 4k resolution with a frame rate of 60fps is support alongside HDR. On the audio front, the Mi Box includes Dolby Digital Plus and DTS support.

The media device has a single USB 2.0 port on the outside, a SPDIF audio output and a 3.5mm audio jack. The HDMI port is compatible with the HDMI 2.0a standard and version 2.2 of the HDCP encryption. On the wireless front, the Mi Box can handle ac WiFi and Bluetooth 4.0. Xiaomi Mi delivers the Box with a Bluetooth remote control that can be used to speak voice commands. In addition, the player is compatible with Xiaomi's own bluetooth game controller.

The previous version (Mi Box 3) did cost only 61 USD during its introduction (but did not have a voisce remote). So this might be a 99 USD product ?
