Wondering if your Samsung Smartphone Gets Oreo? Here's a list.

Wondering if your Samsung Smartphone Gets Oreo? Here's a list.

Android 8, better known as Oreo has been announced last summer and is seeing slow adoption towards compatible devices. Samsung currently rolled out an Android Oreo beta program only to its Galaxy S8 and S8+ devices, and nobody really knows if other Galaxy device owners will get that yummy cookie update, that now changes as there is a list.

So here's the thing, the list is not 100% official/confirmed but seems solid and was made thanks to help from a XDASenior Member. Within framework-res file of the unreleased Note 8 Android Oreo beta he and xda-developpers found a list of XML files that describe the hardware that is present on certain Samsung devices. More importantly, the titles of these XML files contain the internal code-names of many current Samsung devices. The existence of these XML files isn’t proof that the devices listed below will receive Oreo since they could be leftover files, however, the fact that several code-names for unreleased Samsung devices are also mentioned suggests to me that Samsung is experimenting with Oreo on these different devices.

That xml files with code names suggest that these devices are being tested by Samsung for Android Oreo and there is a good chance that they will get that update.

So while not confirmed, it's plausible that the following devices will get Android 8.0 / Oreo:

Smartphones:

  • Samsung Galaxy A3 2017 (a3y17)
  • Samsung Galaxy A5 2017 (a5y17)

Yea because of the drivers and framework the camera needs to function at 100% quality, you need the stock camera app, and that requires TouchWiz ROMs, custom still work fine, but AOSP etc do not
