Win 8 will never catch up to 7. Most people look at it as a bizarre UI and ask for 7 instead. Windows 9 will be out long before they can improve 8 enough to get some people interested.

Some newer motherboards by the likes of Asus just won't allow the installation of Windows XP, which is a real pity.

Install Windows 8.1 and StartIsBack.
Easy, best of both worlds you get the improved optimizations of W8.1 with better memory management, better multi-threading and core handling, etc, etc. Whilst you never ever ever have to look at Modern UI ever again.

Windows 8 I find totally usable and windows7 is a step back my dad has windows 7 but would like windows 8 I said I will put it on for him but he said why he will get it when he needs a new PC he does not upgrade I bet there are a lot out there that will only change OS when they change there windows 7 PC,s and they are getting old I bet windows 8 will start to climb and windows7 decrease not because people like certain OS but because it's time for a new PC
This forum is for tech oriented users most people don't do upgrades and improve there PC they wait for problems then buy a new one what OS they get depends on when they buy.

I like win 8.1, but with some config, boot to desktop and ModernUI is configured to show apps and desktop apps in first. I use this ModernUI as a powerful application launcher, just hit Winkey and search by keyboard, as long as you know the application names.

I'll wait for win9.
Im still very content with my win7 ultimate.
Why should i change if all works fine?
There is no game that give me improved performance most are still dx9.0c or dx10-11 and some games i play can handle mantle.
I start up in 10seconds to my desktop do i need 8 or 6sec? sure its faster but its not a realy needed.
My upgrade from normal harddisk to SSD thats improvement or from usb2 to ubs3 that was improvement.
Win7 works fine next year i'll upgrade to win9 unless thats also crap.

I think the Modern UI is ok, but it has a lot of room for improvement. I think people just hate it because they can't cope with change. Personally, I dislike it because it's very slow to use. I personally stopped using W8 because of hardware issues, and for whatever reason, DX9 games couldn't play and I was unable to install DX9. I think I'll wait until DX12 is released before I decide to do anything to my Windows setup, not that my GPUs will take advantage of it anyway.
Also, I find these statistics a little hard to believe. I'm pretty sure Mac is considerably higher than that, Linux is more like 2%, and then there's about another 1% of other OSes. I think google+baidu+bing together should combine their statistics, because 99.9% of every user will use at least one of those on a near daily basis.

Hardly surprising, 7 is the new XP and XP will be around for a while longer. Kudos to the new MS team for not abandoning Windows 8 though. Looking forward to the next feature pack.

Windows 8.1 here but only cause Microsoft let you upgrade from a pirated version of Windows 7 for £25 when it first came out.

If you call it 9 they will buy it and claim it has nothing to do with 8. Vista anyone.

I'm not at all surprised. I've used Windows 8 on several occasions and hated it.
Still using Windows 7 and loving it.
