Windows 10 Blocking Counterfeit Games ?
icrosoft's new unified services agreement is freaking people out because it contains language that says Microsoft can scan Windows 10 devices for pirated software and block it.
The clause can be found under section 7b, "Updates to the Services or Software, and Changes to These Terms." It reads:
We may automatically check your version of the software and download software updates or configuration changes, including those that prevent you from accessing the Services, playing counterfeit games, or using unauthorized hardware peripheral devices. You may also be required to update the software to continue using the Services
The clause would suggest that Microsoft will disable pirated first-party games. The EULA also mentions "unauthorized hardware peripheral devices," which is a much more fuzzy description. Is it controllers that have been specifically hacked to enable an unfair advantage, or something much broader?
The services agreement covers Windows 10, Windows Phone, Xbox 360 and Xbox One. Published on 4 June 2015, the agreement came into force on 1 August.

You are right, of course...the language was trucked over from some inane xBox Eula crap...that's all it amounts to.
You know, all this "spying" stuff is such a gigantic mountain of BS. People can be such morons, apparently. They don't stop to reason out the insane improbabilities in their "Microsoft wants to spy on me," panic attacks. "OMG, Microsoft wants to know what I emailed my girlfriend and what I ordered on my last pizza! Help--SAVE ME from the wicked Spymasters!"
i agree and desagree at the same time...
-yes what you email to your GF or what is your last pizza is a monetable data (have worked on data like this for a big cash and carry brand) and it is very lucrative data... but not only M$ spy to this, Alphabet (google lol) do it better, and even people give this data for free, (FB, survey after bough a thing, etc...).
-is it important? yes if you care and no if you accept to live in a world where everything is monetable (unless you have to live as a caveman... and even there google world can spy your ass when you go to wash in the river
).
A generation or so back, people were unreasonably afraid of a "Red under every bed." Today, they've moved him from under the bed to inside their computer cases. Sad commentary on the sheep-like nature of humanity. Mob/herd instinct--like Lemmings they all go over the cliff together. Just pathetic, imo.
well... we weren't under your bed but as your neighbourg
. and you have done the same in our land. but as Sting have writen in a song we are the same, this is positive despite the human nature.

When it comes to Piracy, I am always reminded of a short from Amazon Women on the Moon:

Well, I do not pirate games, but I buy very few games too in contrast to times when demos were common.
I buy only when I think it is really good game and worth it.
But I support people who get pirated copy for testing. Because while you can accuse them from stealing, they are actually preventing companies to steal from them.
If statistically someone tells you that 90% of games he tries are bad and will not buy&play, then it is like purchasing 10 cars with 0 warranty knowing that 9 out of 10 will be defunct.
Only dimwit would in such scenario go blindly and buy them.
And just fyi, buying game based on trailer which does not even contains gameplay is like being victim of phishing.
Because that's how game sales are now, throw trailer to peoples faces around internet and someone is bound to get caught. It is just statistics, same as phishing.
